Shaggy dog rescue houston

In order to help our canine rescue friends and also to rescue our dogs we need a place to live while we find forever homes. Our group of dedicated volunteers work together to build and maintain the ranch house for the comfort and safety of our dogs.

Our ranch is also used as a veterinary hospital, which helps the rescue. The dogs who need to be treated receive veterinary attention at a greatly reduced cost. This allows the group to save money and to help save more dogs.

Our facility is also used as a training facility for dogs, which help the rescue and also is a place for people to learn about the dogs and the issues that dogs face, as well as other rescue and foster programs.

We help in the search for homes for dogs who are in our program. We also help with the adoption process.

We also have two large kennels that house the dogs in our program. They provide a safe, warm and homey place for dogs who are not ready to go to their forever homes. We will continue to grow our group as we move toward our goal of no euthanasia and no more than one death in the group each year.

If you are interested in helping us help others, consider a donation to the Houston Shaggy Dog Rescue.

Our Mission

To rescue, rehabilitate and find forever homes for dogs who have been relinquished to shelters, abandoned and abused by their owners, or victims of neglect and cruelty by those who are supposed to be their caretakers.

Our Goals

A permanent home for every dog we find.

A permanent home for every dog we rescue.

No more than one death in the group each year.

The group will be able to pay for any veterinary bills.

We do not accept donations for any one person.

The money we get from donations will be used for rescue work.

We will work to find homes for those dogs who are not adopted.

We will continue to grow and expand as we move toward our goal.

About us

Our name comes from a story told to us by one of our volunteers about a group of stray dogs found in Houston, TX that was living in a shantytown at the time. He described them as shaggy dogs.

We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation. Our group has been rescuing and rehoming dogs for 10 years. We are not affiliated with any rescue organizations in our area. We are self-funded. We have a strong group of volunteers who help us run the rescue. We also have foster homes for dogs and they are part of the group.

If you would like to help us to help dogs, we need volunteers. Our group is open to both men and women, young and old, and all races and colors. There are no limitations on age or color or gender.

We are also open to all faiths. We ask for volunteer help in the areas of shelter, foster, kennel, training and medical. There is no fee to join our group, and no salary or wage is required.

Please consider a donation to help our group move toward the goal of no euthanasia and no more than one death in the group each year. We thank you for considering helping us help dogs.

The group has many dogs who are victims of neglect and cruelty by those who are supposed to be their caretakers.

Some of the dogs we have found had been kept in cages. One had been chained in a shed. Many others had been neglected and abused by the people they were entrusted to. All of them were found to be in good physical health and we were able to find them forever homes.

Many of these dogs had come from puppy mills. These are facilities in which the breeding of puppies is done in an inhumane manner and the puppies are usually kept in cages with no food or water. They are often kept in these conditions until they are weaned. Many dogs do not get a chance to have the loving, caring relationship with their mothers that other dogs do.

We want to thank you for considering a donation. Please consider making a donation to our group.
