With a very small cat, it may still be cute if it suddenly bites your hand with its delicate baby teeth. Nevertheless: You should get rid of this behavior as early as possible - because it gets older, the bites can be painful. Because if a person was bitten by a cat, it can have serious consequences. You should therefore start training as early as possible. For little kittens, it is enough to just pull your hand away if they start nibbling on you while playing. For older cats, you should also take a few other measures.

Never bite again: consequence is the magic word

Cats are water-shy - take advantage of this if you want to stop your tiger from biting. Every time the velvet paw sinks your teeth into your skin, spray it with a little water, for example, a commercially available water gun and spray bottle can be used. This educational measure requires a lot of stamina on your part - the animal only gets used to biting if it combines this unpleasant experience with it every time. However, at the same time, never be resentful if you want to wean something off your cat: If your room tiger shows cuddling needs immediately afterwards, you should not deny him a few pats.

Offer the cat alternatives

In the rarest of cases, your cat will bite you out of real aggressiveness or even malice. Often this happens more because she wants to live out her play instinct. Especially in young animals you can see this intention quite clearly: the kitty puts on the ears, the eyes are wide open and she attacks quickly and precisely. In the same way, it can happen that a cat suddenly uses its teeth when playing with humans. If your velvet paw does and bites your hand, for example, do not pull it away immediately - this will only cause additional scratches. Instead, keep your hand completely loose. The cat will then see its "prey" as "dead" and most likely let it go so that you can carefully withdraw it.

In any case, you should distract your cat and provide her with alternatives so that there are no such painful situations. Offer her cat toys that she can bite to her heart's content. Because if your kitty has interesting alternatives, she has no reason to maltreat her master and mistress for her prey-catching games - and you do not have to get used to this behavior.
